A spacious bathroom deserves glass that makes the most of it.
For a property in Buford, that can mean an oversized walk-in shower in a newer suburban home, a generous primary suite in a Lake Lanier property, or a bathroom remodel where the goal is to replace a bulky framed enclosure with clean, open glass.
DTS Glass & Mirror designs custom shower enclosures around the bathroom rather than starting with a standard door size. Glass thickness, panel configuration, hardware, door movement, and measurements are considered together to create an enclosure suited to the space.
For Buford homeowners, the result can be especially effective in larger bathrooms where uninterrupted glass helps emphasize tile, natural light, architectural details, and the sense of space.
Large walk-in showers require more planning than simply adding more panels.
Once the enclosure becomes wider or taller, panel placement, door operation, hardware, and support requirements become increasingly important.
A spacious shower might incorporate:
The goal is to create an enclosure that feels substantial without making the bathroom feel segmented.
For homeowners considering heavy glass shower enclosure installation, the design should be based on the dimensions and construction of the individual shower.
Buford’s connection to Lake Lanier creates an especially strong case for visually lighter bathroom design.
Homes around the lake can range from comfortable residences to substantial waterfront properties, with interiors often incorporating natural stone, wood, expansive windows, and larger entertaining spaces.
That design language can continue into the bathroom.
Clear frameless glass allows the shower tile and surrounding finishes to remain visible rather than introducing a prominent metal framework across the room.
If the bathroom has a window overlooking trees, water, or a landscaped property, transparent glass can also help preserve the feeling of openness.
The shower becomes part of the overall room rather than a visually separate compartment.
There is no single configuration that works for every large bathroom.
Shower Layout | Glass & Hardware Direction | Best Fit |
Oversized walk-in | Heavy tempered glass with minimal framing | Large primary suites and luxury homes |
Fixed panels + hinged door | Broad stationary panels with coordinated hinges and handle | Spacious tiled showers |
Wide frameless slider | Sliding hardware with large clear panels | Wide openings with limited swing clearance |
Floor-to-ceiling enclosure | Tall glass with carefully planned hardware | High-ceiling bathrooms and dramatic interiors |
Corner enclosure | Custom fixed and hinged panels | Bathrooms where the shower occupies a defined corner |
Low-threshold walk-in | Fixed panels with strategically positioned entry | Open-concept and aging-in-place layouts |
The appropriate glass and hardware combination depends on the panel sizes, opening, wall construction, door movement, and overall enclosure design.
Heavy glass can contribute to the substantial, upscale appearance many homeowners want in a large primary bathroom.
But the visual weight of the glass needs to be balanced with the enclosure’s proportions.
A very large panel can create a dramatic uninterrupted surface. A series of smaller panels may make more sense where the shower has multiple angles or architectural features.
Hardware also becomes more noticeable as the enclosure grows.
Handles, hinges, brackets, and other components should be selected with the glass configuration and bathroom finishes in mind.
The goal is a cohesive enclosure rather than a collection of individual components.
Not every Buford bathroom needs a complete renovation.
Sometimes the tile is still attractive. The vanity works. The fixtures are suitable. The problem is the shower enclosure.
Older framed doors can add visual clutter through metal edges, tracks, and framing that break up the tile.
Replacing that enclosure with frameless glass can create a more contemporary appearance while allowing the rest of the bathroom to remain largely unchanged.
Homeowners considering glass shower door replacement can explore whether a new custom enclosure makes sense for the existing space.
This can be particularly useful when the goal is a focused bathroom upgrade rather than a full remodel.
The visual side of a luxury shower is only part of the equation.
Water quality and daily maintenance can influence how the glass looks over time. Buford’s municipal water system serves a large and growing area, while properties around the wider Lake Lanier region can have different water arrangements depending on location.
Rather than assigning one generalized hardness number to every Buford property, homeowners should consider what they actually see on faucets, fixtures, tile, and shower surfaces.
If water spots and mineral residue are already noticeable throughout the bathroom, glass care deserves attention from the beginning.
Large walk-in shower: More exposed glass means more surface area to maintain.
Frequently used primary shower: Daily use increases repeated exposure to water, soap, and body oils.
Visible faucet deposits: Existing mineral residue can indicate that regular glass care should be part of the bathroom routine.
Lake-area or suburban property: Water conditions can vary by property and water source, so assumptions should not replace property-specific information.
New frameless enclosure: Consider protective treatment before installation if easier routine cleaning is a priority.
A new enclosure is an opportunity to think about maintenance before buildup becomes an issue.
EnduroShield is a transparent treatment designed to make shower glass more water-repellent and easier to clean. The manufacturer states that it helps resist soap scum, grime, limescale, hard-water deposits, and other contaminants.
The treatment does not eliminate cleaning.
Its purpose is to help reduce the tendency of contaminants to adhere to the treated surface, making routine care more manageable. EnduroShield can be professionally applied to new glass and is also available for existing glass, according to the manufacturer.
For a large Buford shower with substantial glass exposure, that additional layer of protection may be worth discussing during the design process.
A small enclosure has less room for visual inconsistency.
A large enclosure has more.
When panels stretch across a substantial bathroom, alignment becomes part of the overall design. The top edges need to relate to the room. Door placement needs to look intentional. Hardware needs to sit comfortably within the panel configuration.
Even the relationship between the glass and nearby tile lines can affect the finished appearance.
Accurate field measurements therefore matter before fabrication.
This is especially important in custom homes, remodeled bathrooms, and spaces with large-format tile or non-standard wall conditions.
A custom frameless enclosure can change the way a bathroom feels without changing its entire footprint.
Clear heavy glass can emphasize a large walk-in shower, keep tilework visible, and support the open aesthetic found in many newer and lake-area homes.
DTS Glass & Mirror can help Buford homeowners evaluate enclosure layouts, glass options, hardware, door configurations, measurements, and protective treatment based on the actual bathroom.
Whether you are building a new primary suite near Lake Lanier or updating an established Buford bathroom, the right glass can make the shower feel intentional from every angle.

Heavy glass can provide the substantial, premium appearance many homeowners want in an oversized walk-in shower. The appropriate thickness and configuration depend on the panel dimensions, hardware, supports, and enclosure design.
Yes. Clear frameless glass can complement lake-area interiors by maintaining open sightlines and allowing surrounding tile, natural materials, and other design features to remain visible.
Not always. Some large showers can use a combination of fixed panels and a door, while others may require additional panels because of the shape, entry location, or architectural features.
A fixed panel can create a very open shower entry in an appropriate layout. However, it may not provide enough water containment for every bathroom. The enclosure should be designed around the shower’s size, spray direction, and entry configuration.
Look at the available clearance first. A hinged door requires swing space, while a sliding configuration can be useful for wider openings where a swinging door would interfere with nearby fixtures or circulation.
In many bathroom layouts, an old framed enclosure can be replaced with a new custom frameless configuration. The existing opening, tile, wall condition, and available door clearance need to be evaluated first.
It can create a more visually open appearance because the glass introduces less visual obstruction than heavily framed or opaque alternatives. The effect depends on the surrounding bathroom design.
Yes. EnduroShield states that its professional treatment can be applied to new shower glass, with manufacturer warranty terms depending on the application.
An in-home measurement is the best starting point. The shower dimensions, wall conditions, fixtures, door clearance, desired glass style, hardware, and treatment options can then be considered together.

DTS Glass did an outstanding job from beginning to end creating a custom glass tub / shower door solution for one of my guest bathrooms after the Home Depot door I purchased and had installed by another party literally exploded causing tremendous damage. Little did I know that glass doors cannot be an out-of-the-box solution as it's very rare that walls are completely squared off. Rather, the correct approach which is what DTS does, is to come out to the home, measure and create a template and then cut glass to the specifics of the installation site. As a result, I now have a glass door system that cannot possibly shatter like the last one. Do yourself a favor and save yourself some money in the long-run and stay out of the big-box stores for this kind of stuff. Go with true craftsman and people of their word that will stand by their work like DTS Glass. I cannot recommend them highly enough.Posted on Google Chris MaurerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
